Loyalty Boy

This is a song I made this year about the commitments we make to our friends and lovers and how it’s so hard for me to fulfill them. I recently read a fantastic essay by Dean Spade about polyamory and one of the most important messages I got from it was to treat our friends more like our lovers and our lovers more like our friends. In the essay, Dean brings up how we are prone to show insecure and abusive sides of ourselves only to our lovers in an attempt to adapt to the romanticized idea of a relationship, and I’ve suffered from that badly.

After making it I realized it’s almost, pretty much, a cover of M83’s “Midnight City”.
